Sleep paralysis
Sleep paralysis is when, during awakening or falling asleep, a person is aware but unable to move or speak. During an episode, one may hear, feel, or see things that are not there.

Sleep paralysis とは、人が起きようとしているときや眠りに落ちているときに、意識はあるが動いたり話したりできないこと。その間に実際にない物事を聞いたり、感じたり、見たりする者もいる。
paralysis とは、「麻痺」のこと。寝ている間の麻痺で「金縛り」という意味になります。
My student said that he had sleep paralysis last night and he saw a cat. Then he threw the cat away from him.
